Our school life is based upon the doctrines and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. With Christ at the centre, the gospel teachings of care, respect and forgiveness are at the heart of our teaching and policies. Our school environment is welcoming to all and we strive for a friendly, respectful atmosphere. Our children should feel safe and happy with a strong sense of pride in themselves, all their achievements and their school.
Prayer and worship are central to daily life in our school. Our children are taught the value of prayer as a means of communication with God and for personal reflection. Class-based prayers are said in the morning, before and after lunch, and at the end of the day. The children have worship assemblies on Friday in their own Key Stage.
Celebrations of the Mass, liturgies, feasts and assemblies are regular and important events. They take place both in our school halls and in English Martyrs’ church. All children are given the opportunity to take an active part in the celebrations including in readings, bidding prayers and hymns. Class assembles are also held which are led by the children and reflect on work from the classroom. Families and parishioners are warmly invited to join the children in these occasions. Once a month, the children lead a Parish Mass at the weekend.
We are fortunate to have English Martyrs’ church next door and our priests are regular and welcome visitors to the school as well as arranging monthly whole-school Masses in church.
