Being able to read music and play a musical instrument is very rewarding for children and can boost their confidence enormously. St Joseph’s encourages children to consider learning an instrument and uses Musica, the music service at Kirklees, our local authority, in order to offer a wide variety of instruments and lessons. Anyone can have a go at learning an instrument and, if children have the inclination, it is a possibility well worth exploring. It also develops transferable skills which help children with other areas of school. It encourages teamwork, improves concentration and builds confidence.
Kirklees Music School teach a variety of instruments in school, Year 3 learn Recorder, Year 4, 5 and 6 can join the Guitar Club, and we have a school band led by KMS. Further information can be obtained from School Office.
We also have lunchtime clubs for our choir (KS2) and African Drumming for KS1.
