Foundation Stage

Our youngest children in St Joseph’s are our Nursery class who are age 3 or 4. Our nursery class is taught by Mrs Pearson, supported by our Nursery Nurse, Miss Coonan. We take a maximum of 26 children each year. The children all attend school in the mornings only (8.55am to 11.55am) and make extensive use of our safe and secure quad area for their play-based learning.

Nursery admissions are administered in School and an application can be made from birth by completing the relevant application form available from our School Office. Our selection process is subject to our Nursery Admissions Policy, which can be obtained from the school office.

Our Reception children are age 4 or 5. We currently accept a maximum of 50 children and have two Reception classes, taught by Miss Fairbank and Mrs Hirst.  Reception children attend school for full days (8.55am to 3.15pm), but continue to follow the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum and learn through play. They make use of our outdoor quad area as an integral part of their learning and for their morning break time, as well as joining Key Stage 1 children for lunchtimes in the infant playground or on our playing fields.

We work on a four year cycle of topics.
